This is hell

and a dissenting opinion in the United States, in China and most of the world,

even at your family dinner table, would be if you said exercise does not solve the problem of obesity.

We've been told repeatedly that if we eat well and exercise, we can avoid all the chronic diseases that are associated with being overweight or obese.

However, what eating well means can very greatly from one suggested diet to the next, and not all of us are dietitians capable of necessarily selecting the best diet or making the best health care decisions for ourselves.

But that is what has increasingly been expected of us under the last half century of neoliberalism.

As sociologist Tressie McMillan Cottam told us way back in 2017 when discussing her book Lower Ed the troubling

rise of for-profit colleges in the new economy. Under neoliberalism, we are all on our own.

That includes being on our own to make healthcare choices that could cost us our lives,
