I'm John Batson with Ennitol, even my colleague, to help me interpret the European

political machinations these last days, especially because there are populist-like parties.

In America, we would say they're populists. There are different

interpretations of that in Europe. I go now to Berlin, the Bundestag, led by Friedrich Merrittz,

with a majority, CSU, CDU, and yet looking at the results from a state election called North Rhine, Westphalia,

the most populous of all the states, 18 million, I believe,

formerly a coal mining juggernaut, now needing a lot of attention,

though it is still a vibrant place with leadership that is the match of anything in Europe.

However, in the most recent state election, while CSU, CDU held on to the lead, the

AFD, the populist party, doesn't like the EU, doesn't like the NATO, doesn't like America.

You name it, they don't like it, except for Moscow, is the reputation.

AFD tripled its turnout from about 5 to about 15%.

And this is seen as a harbinger.
