This is CBS, I on the world. I'm John Betts with my good colleague, Bob Zimmerman.

Stars, stars in the cosmos, too many to count, mysteries about where they come from, black

holes. There's one star we know less about, and that's dangerous, and that's the sun.

So Bob's here to help us understand what NASA understands about the sun and what is left to be done.

Bob, the sun.

Yes, there was a, I'm sorry, John, there was a press release from NASA this week,

announcing that scientists at JPL are now predicting that the sun is going to see a major

increase in sunspot activity in the coming decades.

This will be a long-term uptick in activity.

And they base this prediction on their tracking

of the sun's solar wind. What they've noticed that in 2008, it was at its weakest in recorded

history. But since then, the sun has reversed its long term, that long term weakening

trend.

And they've seen a steady increase in various solar wind parameters, some increasing 29 to 45%.

And they say this increase in the parameters of the solar wind is going to result in a stronger solar
