But here's the catch. Reaching aggressive financial goals doesn't guarantee personal gratification.

In fact, chasing after financial gain can actually undermine our peace, joy, and contentment.

You see, whether rich or poor, our happiness is rarely connected to money.

From his teaching series called Hilarious Generosity, Chuck Tidal Today's Message,

Contentment, Generosity and what is interesting to us is how often joy and contentment are related to the whole concept

of being generous before the Lord.

It isn't something that we sort of grind out or we with

gritted teeth obey, but it's something that really can enhance one's joy as this is cultivated.

We're looking at 1st Timothy chapter 6,

two separate sets of verses both brief but each having to do with contentment

as it relates to Godliness and then that equation when you put together the two of them

results in a generous heart in life.

I'll begin reading at verse 6 down through 10,

then we'll go to 17 through 19.

First Timothy 6, verse 6 from the new living translation

Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth

After all we brought nothing with us when we came into the world and we can't take

anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.

But people who long to be rich fall into into temptation, and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires
