You can tell we're recording this episode of newscasts in the middle of the working day because you

both look like you're dressed for a wedding, which is actually just how you dress for your day jobs.

Yeah, yeah, no, it's not the sort of seven o'clock in the evening slump of the tie half done and the

tail down my jacket.

And if you're listening to this rather than watching it on YouTube, because we're now available

in both formats, it's because they're both wearing ties.

Talking about how things looked, wasn't it interesting at the end of Kemi Badernock's speech,

how much effort the Conservative Party put in to making it look like there were loads of activists here who really loved her and that the hall was really massive, even though it was in a much smaller hall in this venue than these things normally are in. Yeah, I think they've been a little bit stung, I think, by the reality of what smaller numbers look like. I mean, I think in particular with that Mel Stride, Shadow

Chancellor speech the day, where, you know, it was quite early in the morning, 10 o'clock in the

morning, but it was also transparently, not remotely full. Now, for a leader's speech,

you'd expect it to be, and it was, and you'd expect it to be broadly upbeat, and it was,

and, you know, it's worth reminding ourselves isn't it this is kemi

baudenox's first closing conference speech as leader that she's done you know you imagine the

kind of nerves the adrenaline just on a human level that you would face let alone with the party in

the sort of dire predicaments it's in opinion poll ratings wise and it's attempt to grab some attention.

But it seemed to me that speech was confidently delivered by someone who's going to comfortable

in her own political skin. And then the thing that they've been trying to do over the last

couple of days, fast forwarded a bit from where they were anticipating it would be, is give the party something to talk about. And hence we've had this blitz of policy announcements, including the one today. And we've got a blitz of people packing up this conference because they never hang around once the leader's speech has been done. And we're not going to hang around because we're going to make an episode of newscast from the Conservative Party conference in Manchester.
