Welcome to our Rosary meditation.

Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

As we begin, I want to say happy birthday to Barb DeHammers and that we are offering this Rosary that you have a great day today. This is day two of our 33 day preparation

for consecration to Jesus through Mary. St. Louis de Monford insists that in order to be filled by God and reach true and lasting

happiness we must first know ourselves, our weaknesses, and our need for God.

The vices are the bad actions we turn into habits that destroy what we need to be happy,

and there are seven root or deadly vices.

Pride, envy, anger, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust.

And the spiritual masters teach us that every person is dominated by two or three of these deadly sins. Today we reflect

on envy which follows in the wake of pride. But let's begin first by calling to mind all those that we've promised to pray for.

Envy is a resentment or sadness at another's good or the pleasure at another's misfortune.

Gore Vidal, the famous novelist said,

Every time a friend succeeds, something in me dies.

That is a miserable existence.

Envy, in its essence, is a sadness at someone else's good.

If the success or blessings of your friend, family member, neighbor, or even competitor

displeases you, it is clear you suffer to some degree from envy.

But envy is also a pleasure at someone else's misfortune.

This is why we have the tendency to tear others down in order to raise ourselves up. We do so with gossip and eagerness to spread the word of another's downfall. This is why we love dirty Our Father who art in heaven, Halla would be your name.

Thy kingdom count thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
