Hello and thanks for choosing to listen to this. I'm Helen Needham. We often talk about nature connection on this podcast, be it trees, animals, rivers or mountains. But what about the

rocks that form the earth we all live upon?

It's sometimes hard to fathom just how old and well-travelled rocks are and grasp a sense of deep time.

That's exactly what Ilana Halperin has spent her career doing through her artistic practice,

revealing and exploring our close human connection to the geological forces at play,

not only on planet Earth, but our sister planet Mars.

Ilana has a new exhibition at the Fruit Market Gallery in Edinburgh, more details on that later,

but it was in Newlands Park in her adopted home of Glasgow that we met.

And she told me about her original home, New York City, and where her fascination for rocks

first emerged. So I grew up in New York City on the Upper West Side, quite near Central

Park and quite near Riverside Park, both of which are filled with rocky outcrops
