Congress narrowly avoided a government shutdown this past week, working late into Saturday to pass a short-term spending bill that funds the government until November 17th. While some Republican lawmakers, like Florida Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), are looking to oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, other GOP members are expressing satisfaction that they were able to strike a deal for the American people. The trial of Sam Bankman-Fried begins today. The 31-year-old once ran a crypto-empire worth billions, but after the collapse of his company, FTX, customers of the cryptocurrency exchange found that nearly $8 billion was missing. In court, prosecutors will lay out the case against SBF in what experts are calling one of the biggest financial fraud cases in U.S. history.
