California reported 7,149 new confirmed coronavirus cases on Tuesday, shattering its single-day record.

Santa Clara County reported the highest number of cases in the past two months.

An experts say that some of the rising cases can be attributed to an

increase in testing, but they warn the testing alone is not responsible for the surge. Governor Gavin

Newsom, who last week mandated Californians wear masks in public places, is also urging residents

to use precautions like handwashing and social distancing. And he warned that the state could reinstate more stringent restrictions.
