Hey everybody, Coach Jonathan here with a special episode of the Asuka Cycling Coach podcast.

0:04.6

This past week we were in Monterey, California, at Laguna Seca for the sea otter classic,

0:09.6

the all things racing and bike expo that happens every year around this time.

0:14.1

While we were there, I sat down with a couple guests, including Pete Morris,

0:17.3

our product manager that you heard just a couple weeks ago who races for Team Cliff Bar.

0:21.7

And we had a discussion about componentry. So our guests are from NV composites.

0:26.7

NV is a company that does things a bit differently and it's been evident to us.

0:30.6

We've been using their stuff for the 40 kilometer time trial. I've been using their stuff on road

0:35.2

and on mountain for quite some time. And I feel like they go about things very differently.

0:40.0

After talking to them, I realized that they really do go about things differently.

0:43.7

So while this may very well seem just like an NV commercial, giving NV an opportunity to talk

0:47.8

about their product, I wanted to dig deeper into what you should actually look for in different

0:53.9

componentry in terms of performance. Should a road handlebar perform a specific way?

0:58.7

We don't usually think about that. We just usually think about weight, price, maybe durability.

1:03.1

We don't really think beyond that. So apply that to all the different component choices we make.

1:07.8

And I feel like there's a lot of low-hanging fruit for a lot of us that are listening to this.

1:11.6

We put in so much effort into all the training that we do. We can probably make a whole lot of gains

1:16.4

as well by just making smarter component decisions. So I hope you can learn from this conversation

1:22.0

what you should look for from a component, whether that be a wheel, a handlebar, anything else

1:26.8

like that, whether that's NV or not. Let's look deeper into the component choices that we make

1:32.3

and get faster. And one last thing, we were using a different microphone setup and we had some audio

1:37.7

issues. So I apologize in advance for the buzzing will here. Hopefully you can hear through that.
