I am Danny Lavery.

And with me in the studio this week is Hallie Bateman, an illustrator based in Los Angeles.

She's the author of three books, including What to Do When I'm Gone and Directions.

Hallie, welcome to the show.

Thank you so much for having me.

I'm a big fan.

I am so excited, but I feel strongly that if you're going to try to coin a term like

illustrator, you can't just say you're the author of three books.

You need to have some sort of portmanteau for like author but no drawings of like drothor.

Ooh, yeah.

I mean, I definitely struggled to find terms for kind of any of my books.

I'm like a graphic novel, graphic memoir.

Like there's a lot of confusion.

So yeah, I did land at Illustrator and I sort of just thought it was funny and accurate.

It's fabulous, and I'm glad that you have coined it. And I'm even more glad that I pronounced it roughly accurately.
