While researching historic cases for Southern Mysteries, I stumbled on the story of Mary Cooper,

a woman whose death on Montford Avenue in Asheville, North Carolina, nearly a century ago,

left behind far more questions than answers. At first, I thought it might be a story I could tell in one episode. But the deeper I went,

digging through archives, trial transcripts, and long-forgotten headlines, I realized Mary's

case was very complicated.

Investigators initially couldn't agree on how she died.

This led one of her friends to Lancho's own investigation.

Then came other twist and unexpected developments in this case.
