In season one of Drill, you met the ex-on scientists who wanted to save the world from climate

disaster and heard the story of an industry that spent millions to create climate denial.

This season, you'll meet some of the people being directly impacted by our already changing

climate.

In California fishing season for the Dungeonous Crab has been delayed due to high levels

of a dangerous neurotoxin.

It's an environmental problem, scientists blame warmer waters and an economic one.

The Dungeonous Crab is a $60 million year industry.

The West Coast Crab fishery is one of the most sustainable in the world, but fishermen

here have nearly been put out of business by warming oceans.

We're asking these guys to sit around and either make no money or make hardly any money

doing part-time jobs, you know, but they have to be on call because we never know when

the season is going to start.

So it's really hard for them to work during these closures and our boats are sitting idle

for three, four or five months at a time now.

If you think this is just about crabs and fishermen, though, think again.

The same time that there's this public promulgation of doubt, you have internally the companies

making enormous investments in their own infrastructure and planning for the future.

So for example, raising the levels of offshore oil platforms to account for sea level rise,

strengthening them to account for increased storm severity and investing in the technology

to access a warming and melting Arctic.

This small, tight-knit community just became the first industry to sue big oil.
