Summary

Gris talks to The Mash Report host Nish Kumar about comedy, the role of the political satirist and the painfully endless Brexit goodbye. And Gris says her own goodbye to Al, who is leaving the podcast to embark on a new career in ASMR. As he does, Al and Gris look back on some of their favourite farewells in film and fiction.

Hello, this is everything else, the FT Culture Podcast.

0:14.8

I'm Grizz, a commissioning editor on the arts desk.

0:17.6

And I'm Al, the food and drink editor.

0:20.3

This week is goodbye. Not for the podcast, I must

0:23.6

say, but just for me. So this will be my final episode. And so we'll be fighting back the tears

0:28.9

to talk all about goodbyes. Indeed, from the painful, slow death goodbyes of Brexit with

0:36.6

comedian Nish Kumar, to talking about some of our favourite goodbyes of Brexit with comedian Nish Kumar

0:37.8

to talking about some of our favourite goodbyes from fiction and in our own lives too.

the 90s comedy that's about living through the troubles and being a teenager

1:31.5

and worrying about things like car bombs but also worrying about lip gloss and whether you're

1:38.0

gay and who fancies you and all the other things that teenage girls worry about. That's not a good description of it, but it's totally brilliant.

1:46.7

And the other thing I've been watching is the second series of Fleabag,

1:50.4

which has parallels with Derry Girls, in fact,

1:52.8

because Fleabag herself, the main character in this series,

1:56.9

has got the hots for a Catholic priest.

1:59.6

As we all know, it's not a good idea to have

2:03.3

full of love with a Catholic priest.
