Peter and I have spent many, many years talking about trouble on campus and now it's so striking that I do not

summer there is no summer here there are reports from Columbia University that the campus is now shot and gone to remote learning.

There are stories of arrest, attentions, dishoming, and then over these last hours there are fresh reporting from Yale University of

of Violence and threats and language that I as a young person knew was unacceptable. You didn't have to be matured

to know that anti-Semitism is not acceptable because of what happened in the

20th century. Yes, but also at the same time people speaking anti-Semitic language are dangerous, period.

And so what we're looking at now is there is no easy summary.

Peter, help me on this.

We've been talking about Harvard University

and very careful language about what can and can't

the campus enforce. It would appear from early reports, Fog of War, that

there's no enforcement whatsoever at Yale University campus, nor at Columbia

University campus, and that one of the lessons the administrators have drawn from these

last weeks of controversy is to do nothing.

How do we measure what we're hearing is going on just down the road from reality.

Yes, the situation is grim.

Part of its origins lie in the refusal of administrators, of university presidents, provost,

deans, to enforce their own rules over the last roughly decade or so.

I'm especially thinking about the rules

that limit the time, place, and manner

in which students can protest.
