First is Patrick James Denahe, born on January 28, 1982, in Santa Clara, California, and, as a young adult, transferred to Baylor University in his sophomore year of college.

Previous to this transfer, Patrick had spent the last two seasons playing basketball in New Mexico,

before red-shirting at Baylor for the 2002-2003 season and preparing for the upcoming season as a Baylor Bear.

Now, before entering college, Patrick was a high school standout and played ball all throughout his young life.

So it came as no surprise that, by his sophomore year, the 6'10 forward had started 28 out of the 30 games he played in,

had an average of 10.6 points and 7.5 rebounds for New Mexico, and plan to bring that same

skill, if not better, to his native Santa Clara for

Unfortunately, he would never get a chance to play a game on the Bears court.

The next person you need to know about is Carlton Dotson, a junior power forward at Baylor

and friend of Patrick's, who transferred from Paris Junior College in the summer of 2002 and had already played one season for the Bears.

Carlton, just like Patrick, has spent most of his young life playing basketball, and, according to those who knew him growing up, always dreamed of playing for the NBA.

Now, in the summer of 2003, reports started floating around that both Patrick Denahey and Carlton-Dotson were concerned about their safety,

so much so that both purchased two pistols and a rifle and began practicing on a farm in Waco.

According to one of Patrick's friends, he got a call on June 14th in which Patrick said that threats were being made to Carlton by two of their teammates and ended the conversation saying that the pair were going to a party the next day.
