Cole Imperi is a thanatologist which means she studies death, dying, loss and grief. Friend of the show and frequent guest Alie Ward recommended her some time ago when I was looking to talk to someone about loss in 2020. We finally made it happen—in person, no less—since Cole now lives in Los Angeles. Also, she brought bread and butter! And she made the butter herself while hanging out with Alie Ward earlier in the day! On this episode we discussed pepperoni rolls, Kentucky, her relationship with religion, feeling drawn to study death and dying, interning at a crematorium, what people get wrong about grief, funeral directors, misconceptions about people in the deathcare industry, whether the industry is predatory, why living forever isn't what we should want, infertility, shadowloss (a term she coined), roller derby, cicadas, thanabotany, pickle ball, making daisy chains, Ruby and so much more. We also took your questions and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone wherein I revealed some things I've never revealed on the show.
