Earlier this year, the Freedom from Religion Foundation accused NFL Hall of Famer and

new University of Colorado football coach, Deon Sanders, of forcing his Christian faith

on his student athletes.

Apparently, Sanders opens team meetings in prayer.

According to the activists, this amounts to, quote, school-sponsored proselytizing.

With the activists of misstice, the difference between expression and coercion.

As First Liberty Council Keisha Russell put it, Sanders does not lose his constitutional

right to free exercise of religion, simply because he's an employee at CU.

This is exactly what the Supreme Court ruled last year in a case similar to Deon's Kennedy

versus the Bremerton School District.

In that case, coach Joe Kennedy, a football coach at a public high school, was vindicated

against a school district that terminated his employment because he prayed before and

after football games.

While Sanders practices are no different, our founders knew that religion is indispensable

to a free and flourishing society.

The public institutions should not censor private religious practice.
