Summary

Lo is joined by world renowned neuroscientist and author. Dr. Caroline Leaf. She has spent the last 30 years researching the mind-brain connection, nature of mental health and formation of memory. She was one of the first in her field to study how the brain can change with directed mind input (neuroplasticity). Throughout her years of clinical practice, she has helped hundreds of thousands of people learn how to use their mind to detox and grow their brain to succeed in every area of their lives. Doctors are quick to prescribe you drugs, but today's episode will empower you to ask the right questions and get the help you need. The two have a candid conversation this week to discuss the use of pharmaceutical drugs with treating mental health along with helpful techniques to clean up your mental mess, process past traumas, work on healing your inner child and understand the difference between mental health challenges vs mental health illness.

Question Of The Week: Are you a gambler? Do you like going to Las Vegas? This is a judgment- free safe space boo, please drop your answer in the review section of Apple Podcast.

Hello, bienvenito. Welcome one and all to a brand spanking new episode of the low-life podcast. I'm your

0:22.9

flaming hot and spicy, seasonally depressed, white wine drinking, talky finger licking, hot mess of a host,

0:30.6

Lorenzo van Rumpf. And I'm so happy to be here with you today. There is no place I'd rather be

0:36.6

than right here with my beautiful low-lifers. I hope you're having a great day and a beautiful week so far. But if you are not feeling good right now, that June gloom is real. In LA, it hasn't really been sunny and people are freaking out. People are losing their shit. They're like, oh my God, maybe we should move from the state of California because it's been gloomy for two weeks. I'm embracing the June gloom, but it does make me depressed. It is making me a little bit sad. And so if you're going through it right now, just feeling stressed and anxious or depressed or just, but the weather change, just not feeling 100% right now, I feel you. I'm there with you. And don't you worry, boo-boo. You have come to

1:12.7

the right place. We're about to turn that frown upside down. We got a great show in store for you

1:17.4

today. Oh, I am so excited for this week's guest. I can't believe we booked this week's guest.

1:23.2

Gay gasp over here. That's what I was doing when I found out she was coming on the show.

1:29.1

Before we get into this week's very special guest, though, let's talk about mental health.

1:33.9

Nobody asked. Well, I know a lot of people ask, thank you for asking about mental health.

1:38.6

Thank you for asking your friends and family, how they're doing mental health-wise.

1:41.6

I love that everybody's asking, but you know, my schick here on the podcast is to say, nobody asked because nobody did in the beginning,

1:48.7

but now I'm so happy that people are on that mental health train. Okay, so here we go. Mental

1:52.9

health-wise this week, on a scale of one to ten, I was actually feeling like a solid five. Pretty

1:59.3

shitty. I just wasn't in a good headspace. I don't know.

2:03.1

Things were just getting to me. It's a mixture of things. A combination shit platter, if you will.

2:08.7

But right now in this very moment with you, I'm feeling like a solid 8.7 out of 10. And I have to

2:15.1

attribute this jump in mental health, this quick little booster shot to Mr. Jason Tardick. He's here with me now. So we came to L.A. Very impromptu trip. He's like, Lo, I'm coming into town, very last minute. I have a podcast that I'm going to do. I would love to see you, obviously. I was like, yeah, we're hanging out. And so he said, we're going to hang out for the first

2:34.3

night in L.A. And then if you'd like, come with me to Vegas. Let's have a night in Vegas. Have a good time. And then I'll leave from there and go to Nashville. The idea of doing a spontaneous trip to Vegas didn't seem very appealing to me at all, to be honest. But you know what? When it comes to Jason, he's that friend where I'm like, okay, I'm going to trust fall because I know no matter what we're doing, we could be at a freaking Salvation Army in Ohio or at a DMV in freaking Colorado. Just random shit. I know it's going to be a good time if he's involved. And I do trust him implicitly. So I know if we're going to Vegas together, he's going to have it all set up. It's

3:07.7

going to be an amazing situation. And so I am actually recording this live from Las Vegas at the

3:13.5

Wind Hotel. I'm in room 2562. I'm overlooking all of Vegas right here. I could see the desert

3:19.8

and the golf course and there's a shitty hotel. What is that? The Westgate? Oh, that doesn't look cute. But anyway, I'm enjoying this view. This hotel is beautiful. I freaking love it here at the win. And I'm having a good time with Jason. So while I'm recording this intro, he's actually doing a podcast with carrot top. So random. So freaking random. But he's a big carrot top fan. And so anyway, while he's talking to carrot top, I'm over here in my room recording this intro for you. All right. I have some questions for my low lifers. And I cannot wait to read your answers in the review section of Apple Podcast. This week's question of the day or questions of the day. First one up, are you a gambler? You down to throw some money on the table, win or lose? I'm curious to know that because I'm not a gambler at all. Jason freaking loves it. I don't want to say he has a gambling addiction, but Daddy likes to spend his money at a cards table playing poker, blackjack, I don't know, God knows what he plays, but he's down to play. And I don't know how much money he's lost or won. I think he said his max he's ever won was like $4,000 at a poker table, which to me is like, holy shit. But I mean, he's friends with these professional poker players. And as we were driving to Vegas today, which was such a fun road trip,
