I say this for a lot of episodes because I feel like the episodes get better and better but this really was one of my favorite

interviews to date. I have followed Jess's writing, her beauty writing for a long time now, and she and I just think very similarly.

I think this overall question about how to be a feminist, but also someone who's into beauty and

skin care.

How do you be a good environmental citizen

but also be someone that likes doing things and buying products?

These are all questions that we talk about.

How do you reconcile with the fact that you may love to put on makeup,

but you're also doing so in a society that rewards flaw- free women or rewards certain beauty standards.

It's all very deep and layered and complex and I'm so grateful that Jess was willing to go there with me and have these conversations.

She's also just such an advocate for women of color in the beauty space.

She know, we talked about how she uses her privilege as a white woman to tell different stories.

And just also recognizing that clean beauty,

that sustainable beauty isn't some brand new thing

that, you know, Gwyneth Paltrow invented that it's something that goes back for generations in black and brown communities, which I so appreciate.
