Brielly and this week, in light of the sad death of Tom McLeish, the highly acclaimed scientist

and Christian educator here in the UK, we wanted to honour him by playing a brilliant episode

from 2017 when he joined me on the show to discuss the question, does science need God?

Professor Tom McLeish was a physicist, academic interdisciplinary leader and writer. He held

the chair of being Professor of Natural Philosophy in the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology

at the University of York. And among many other roles, he chaired the Royal Society's Education

Committee. Well Tom passed away last week following a diagnosis of cancer last year. Tom

spoke and wrote frequently on the complementarity of science and faith. And in this episode

he was joined by a physicist and teacher David Hutchings. Together they had co-authored

the book Let There Be Science, Why God Love Science and Science Needs God, arguing that

the Christian worldview has fueled many of the greatest leaps forward in science. Joining

David and Tom was Susie Sheehy, an accelerator physicist at Oxford University, who is agnostic

when it comes to religion. She argued that science doesn't need God since it's a fundamentally
