| 0:00.0 | Mr. You've entered the Paracast with your host, Gene Steinberg and David Bietney. |
| 0:19.0 | Mr. Bietney. |
| 0:28.2 | Mr. Bietney, you have discovered a fascinating guest for this week's episode. |
| 0:30.6 | Can you tell us how this came to be? |
| 0:34.5 | Well, hopefully everybody else will think he's fascinating, too, not just me. |
| 0:38.4 | But, yeah, serendipity is how I found this guy. |
| 0:43.0 | I often go through YouTube looking for weird videos, |
| 0:47.1 | partially for our paracast TV thread on the paracast forums, |
| 0:51.7 | and also partially because I don't really watch much TV, Gene, and instead I watch videos on YouTube because there's a lot |
| 0:55.8 | more esoteric bizarre things. Make a long story short in looking through some very specific topics |
| 1:03.2 | that, let's just say it might surprise some of our listeners that I would potentially even |
| 1:08.8 | be interested in these topics. I happened upon a video of a little bit of a talk by this guy, Walter Starkey. |
| 1:17.0 | And I'm listening to him, and I thought, you know, this guy sounds incredibly intelligent. |
| 1:23.6 | Now, he really comes from the more religious side of the world, or at least that's what I thought, until I started researching him. |
| 1:32.6 | And in doing that, Gene, it turns out that this guy is one fascinating cat. |
| 1:39.4 | He really, the people he's known, the places he's been, and I have to tell you, I read that he is like in his |
| 1:47.8 | late 80s. Now, I'm looking at these videos of him supposedly recorded within the last few years, |
| 1:52.7 | and the guy's supposed to be in his late 80s. And I'm looking at him going, there's just no way |
| 1:57.7 | that this guy could be in his late 80s. He looks like he's in his mid-60s or something. It just blew my mind. So the more I read about him, more I was fascinated by him. And like I said, Gene, some of the stuff that he talks about, well, you know who reminded me of? He reminded me of Bernard H. Dr. Bernard H. who we had on the show, who a lot of our listeners |
| 2:19.1 | really enjoyed, right? Astrophysicist who has this book, The God Theory, and is looking for sort |
| 2:26.7 | of a synthesis of religion and science. At least that's how I understood it when I read his book. |
| 2:32.9 | And it seemed to me that Walter is coming at it from a slightly different angle. |
