May 1996 was a pretty pivotal moment for me in my career.

The first time I worked journalistically in the city of Barcelona,

it was the under 21 championships, the semi-finals and final, four teams.

And it turned out that good there they were, the Scotland of Tommy Craig's a manager, Christian

Daly, Stevie Glass from Aberdeen, Jackie McNamara, we weren't quite good enough for France and Italy sides and Spain sides containing the guys on show were unbelievable in that mini tournament in the

Montreal Stadium in Barcelona for France. There were

Vera, Perez, Macalelli, first sight of any of those for me. For Spain there was Raoul, a young Raoul,

18 year old, the youngest boy, a distance in his squad, even to La Pena, who stunned everybody

with his quality that day.

Also a young Fernando Moreientes, others who went on to Star for Spanish clubs.

But maybe it was the eventual winners, Italy, who had seemingly the most star-stered squad.
