her story. Clara was born Clarissa Harlow Barton on Christmas Day, 1821.

Her parents' names were Stephen and Sarah Barton, and she was the youngest of the five Barton

children.

Her father, Stephen Stephen was a politician, a horse breeder, and a farmer. He

often told Clara's stories of the American Indian Wars, helping her learn how important it is to keep an army

equipped with the necessary supplies and food and clothing.

The lack of these provisions could determine the outcome of a war. Her
