Summary

Cindy Yu presents highlights from Sunday morning’s political shows.

After an extraordinary week of anti-Zelenskyy attacks by Trump, the UK government is standing firmly behind Ukraine, with Starmer announcing new sanctions against Russia. Education Secretary stops short of criticising Trump though, saying she welcomes the US bringing Russia to the table. Meanwhile, Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge and Estonia Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna urge Labour to ramp up defence spending past the new aim of 2.5% GDP.

1:15.8

Mr. Trump? So the Foreign Secretary will be setting out more on Monday in terms of the extent of the

1:21.5

sanctions. This is a significant package and he will be setting out more detail on this.

1:26.2

This is of course about Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine,

1:30.6

but this is also about our domestic security too,

1:32.7

because we have seen the impact of Russian aggression here in the UK.

1:36.5

We saw the poisonings, of course, in Salisbury.

1:38.4

We also see continued aggression by the Russian armed forces around our shores.

1:46.7

It is why, again, we are investing in defence.

1:52.0

But I do think it's right that we make absolutely clear where responsibility lies for the conflict and the actions that we as the government will take to make sure we bear down as hard
