On this program, Debbie Millman talks with Christopher Simmons

about its latest book, Just Design, about why San Francisco is a good place for designers and about why designers should be continually redefining their profession.

They should be creating work that does advance what it means to be a designer.

And I think if we lose sight of that, that's how things start to stagnant.

We start to make ourselves accountable to everyone but ourselves.

Christopher Simmons is a perfect fit for design matters because he really truly believes that design matters.

Christopher is the principle of the design studio, Mine.

He's also an educator, a design advocate, and a past president of the AIGA San Francisco chapter.

During his tenure there, he created San Francisco Design Week,

and by the time he was done, Mayor Gavin Newsom declared San Francisco to be a city where design makes a difference.

Of course, design makes a difference everywhere and last year as if to emphasize

that point Christopher came out with a book about good design that's good for

the world it's his fourth book and it's called

Just Design. It's a loaded title and we're going to unpack it. Christopher Simmons
