In telling the Christmas story, in my opinion, there's only one thing you need to get

straight.

Just one little detail.

And that is that God came in human flesh as Savior of the world.

God became incarnated in human flesh, and to say that is really to make a doctrinal statement of the first magnitude because there

are a lot of people who don't agree with that.

It says it doesn't really matter whether he was virgin born or what.

But I think it does matter, and we're going to look at the reasons.

Chapter 1 of Matthew, the Book of the Generation of Jesus Christ, Son of David, son of Abraham.

We have here listed the generations in the genealogy of Christ, starting with Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, Jacob begot Judas and his brethren,

Judas begot Ferries, Zara of Tamar, and on, and on it goes, talking about generations.

In the way these are laid out, Matthew 117 says, so all the generations from Abraham to David are 14 generations.

From David till the carrying away into Babylon are 14 generations from the carrying away into Babylon and to Christ are 14 generations.

I always like to look at the last 14 because the last 14 tell a huge, huge story. Matthew 1.12, we're going

to count the last 14. And we do this from time to time, just to refresh our memories.

If you look at Matthew 112, after they were brought to Babylon, Jacchinae begat

Saltyl, Saltiel begot

Zerubbable.

And I'm going to read the generation numbers.

Jackanayas begot Saltyl, number one.
