One of my favorite things to do as a priest is to journey with our brothers and sisters as they explore becoming Catholic in the RCIA program.

The oddity is that oftentimes those who come into the church are the best educated Catholics that

there are. It seems that what we need is something like R-CIA for Catholics, for those of us

who have grown up with the faith and have never really learned it. So I invite you to join

those coming into the church as they learn about the beauty of our faith and hope as well that

it will help to draw you ever closer to the God

who is truth and love.

On this 20th program of our RCAA for Catholic series, Father Ricardo moves from the

sacrament of anointing to the second sacrament of initiation.

While the bishop or ordinary of the diocese usually performs confirmations, he can delegate a parish pastor

or other priests to perform the sacrament if other duties preclude his participation in the celebration.

Confirmations are usually done en masse for the parish classes of our younger brothers and sisters

Heavenly Father, we do praise and thank you for this day, for the great gift of life,

for your constant provision for us, for your faithfulness,

for the generous ways in which you give to all of us the grace that we need for the many

tasks that you place at our feet. Help us to continue to be open to the power and the activity

of your spirit in our lives. Help us tonight in a special way to come

to a deeper understanding of the task that's been entrusted to us through the sacrament of

confirmation. Help us to be bold and courageous and loving witnesses of the faith to those we meet.
