One of my favorite things to do as a priest is to journey with our brothers and sisters as they explore becoming Catholic in the RCIA program.

The oddity is that oftentimes those who come into the church are the best educated Catholics that there are.

It seems that what we need is something like RCIA for Catholics, for those of us who've grown up with the faith and have never really learned it.

So I invite you to join those coming into the church as they learn about the beauty of our faith and hope as well that it will help to draw you ever closer to the God who is truth and love.

I'm glad to have everybody tonight as we start up a new series of Catholicism for cradle Catholics.

We're going to begin tonight a series which I don't know how long it will go.

I just want to kind of impress on us and I guess I want to give people lots of time to fire back questions,

because this topic is, I am convinced of absolute importance, and the topic is the sacraments.

There are three reasons for this, quite frankly.

It kind of began sometime last, I think it was just before Easter.

We published here in the paper a copy of a letter.

It was an email that he had sent to her.

I contacted this guy and asked him if I could publish it.

He said, sure.

And I want to read it as we begin, especially mindful.

I want to preface this by the fact that we may have some folks with us who are not Catholic, which is great.

It is at one in the same time, I think, a very insightful critique of what's lacking in what

are known as Seeker churches and what's lacking in the Catholic Church.

And it really became kind of the provocation for wanting to do something together with these other two things that I'm going to get into.
