One of my favorite things to do as a priest is to journey with our brothers and sisters as they explore becoming Catholic in the RCIA program.

The oddity is that oftentimes those who come into the church are the best educated Catholics that

there are. It seems that what we need is something like RCIA for Catholics, for those of us

who have grown up with the faith and have never really learned it. So I invite you to join

those coming into the church as they learn about the beauty of our faith and hope as well that

it will help to draw you ever closer to the God

who is truth and love.

On this 17th program of our RCAA for Catholic series, Father Ricardo talks about the first

sacrament that most of us receive, baptism.

It's one of the two sacraments of initiation.

With the sprinkling of or submersion into holy water, the Holy Spirit came to dwell in us.

One of his mentors defined a sacrament as a concrete mystery that when you bump into it,

it puts you in contact with a divine reality.

Here is Father John Ricardo.

Father, we come before you again tonight to give you thanks and praise for the day,

for the blessing of life and of faith.

We want to thank you tonight in a special way for the great gift of baptism,

for the adoption that we have received as your sons and daughters,

for the new relationship that we have with you through your son by the power of your spirit.

Lord, we pray that that same spirit that dwells within us would illuminate our minds and help us to come to understand the difference that you make for us.

Help us to become what we are, your sons and your daughters,
