One of my favorite things to do as a priest is to journey with our brothers and sisters as they explore becoming Catholic in the RCIA program.

The oddity is that oftentimes those who come into the church are the best educated Catholics that

there are. It seems that what we need is something like RCIA for Catholics, for those of us

who have grown up with the faith and have never really learned it. So I invite you to join

those coming into the church as they learn about the beauty of our faith and hope as well that

it will help to draw you ever closer to the God who is truth and love.

On this final RCAA for Catholics edition, Father Ricardo concluded his sub-series on the sacraments of the church with a discussion on the male priesthood.

For decades since the Second Vatican Council, fringe groups within the church and members of the elite media

that didn't understand or didn't want to understand the church's teaching called for changes

regarding the all-male priesthood. Here is Father John Ricardo. In his apostolic letter on the

dignity of woman, entitled in Latin Moliaris Dignitata. Note it's not on the dignity of women,

it's on the dignity of woman.

It's a significant difference.

Pope John Paul II reminds us that the Second Vatican Council, especially in the dogmatic

constitution on the church, Lumen Jensen, renewed the awareness of the universality of the

priesthood.

He writes, and I quote, this is from Moliaris Dignitatum, paragraph 27, in the new covenant, there is only one sacrifice and only one priest, Christ, period.

All the baptized share in the one priesthood of Christ, both men and women, inasmuch as they must present their bodies as a living

sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, as Paul writes to the Christians in Rome, give witness to

Christ in every place, and give an explanation to anyone who asks the reason for the hope

in eternal life that is in them.
