Our text for this morning's message is found in Luke chapter 4 verses 16 to 21.

And Jesus came to Nazareth where he had been brought up and he went to the synagogue as his

custom was on the Sabbath day and he stood up to read and there was given to him

the book of the prophet Isaiah.

He opened the book and found the place where it was written.

The spirit of the Lord is upon me,

because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind to set at liberty those who are oppressed to proclaim

the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book and gave it back to the attendant and sat down.

And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.

Let's pray together.

Lord Jesus Christ, would you be here to say that again today?

But these might not be words about what you did or others will do, but words that are coming true in this hour.

Be here, Lord, to say today, this release, this recovery, this liberty, is fulfilled in your hearing. Grandfather, I pray that your son be exalted in our midst as the great liberator. In his name we pray,

amen.

In Luke chapter 4 verses 18 and 19, Jesus reads from Isaiah 61 and then he sits down he looks around and he

says today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. Now they may have thought, well here's another

John the Baptist, somebody who's announcing that the Messiah is almost here, the

kingdom is at hand, one day, very soon there's going to be this grand liberation.

Romans are going to be gone and the new age will be here.

That's not what Jesus meant.

We know it's not because in Luke 7 verse 20, John the Baptist,
