Summary

It's the last position group Mount Buckmore on this Friday Buckeye Talk. Doug Lesmerises, Nathan Baird and Stephen Means, with the help of texters, debate and discuss the best linebackers in Ohio State history and which four belong on the program's linebacker Mount Buckmore. There are at least six very strong candidates, which means there is disagreement on the top four. Debates on quarterback, running back, receiver, defensive end and cornerback have already been done on the pod, and now we'll take a break from Mount Buckmore for a bit, and then get back to coaches and overall Buckeyes on some Mount Buckmores later this season. For now, thanks for hanging out and listening to another Buckeye Talk from cleveland.com. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Learn more about your ad choices. Hey, hey, where you been, but got talk is about to begin, hey, hey, hey, come on in.

Another mouth, buck, moron, buck, I talk, it's Doug Lee and Reese, Nathan Beard and Stephen

0:30.0

means linebackers today. Nathan, last week, I made a big production of like, oh, the quarterbacks hurt

0:35.7

my head. And then it was like, it wasn't as bad as I thought. And then we got some comments from

0:40.0

textures like, yeah, it wasn't that bad. So I'm not going to oversell how hard the linebackers were,

0:45.3

but as we were starting, and Stephen reminded me, save it for the podcast, the more I looked at

0:50.6

the linebackers, the less certain I became about who the four guys should be. I think a surface

0:56.6

level thing, I was like, well, there's, I thought there's three sure things. And then a couple

1:00.8

guys in the mix for the fourth spot. And the more I looked, the more I feel like there are,

1:08.9

I'm not sure there's more than one sure thing. And I think he goes 70 maybe in my opinion on

1:12.7

who could be there. How certain or uncertain are you about the guys you wound up putting on your

1:17.8

four spots? You know, I thought there was at least six deep with strong contenders. And it's

1:24.5

tough because college football has changed so much, I think, over 60 years that what used to

1:33.0

get you all American status is maybe different than what we expect a linebacker to do today.

1:42.0

But those guys who did that are so synonymous with Ohio State football that it's hard to leave

1:46.7

them off of Mount Buckmore. Back then, if you're a thumper here, the best linebacker, and if you're

1:54.3

a really elite thumper, you're just an all-American. And there's still thumpers today. The well-lined

1:58.4

backers, so viewed as that, but that might not always be your most valuable linebacker any more

2:03.2

depending on what your scheme is. And the stats also don't help at all. Tom Kuzeno was credited with

2:13.3

more than 200 tackles in the season. Chris Spielman and Tom Kuzeno, we tell like made 29 tackles in

2:18.9

a game one time. And now it's like, if you have a good game, you have like eight and a half tackles,

2:23.8

maybe 11, right? I mean, if you get around 100 or so for a season, that's really good. So a lot
