The end of our three-day weekend, Memorial Day, is upon us, so he may have seen a good deal of the celebrations of President Langer Reith at Arlington today.

And one of the guys was like, why are we doing Memorial Day now?

Why is it always now?

That's a great question. If you're unfamiliar with the history of Memorial Day, it started

shortly after the Civil War. And basically, it's because that's when the flowers are out.

And what are to lie flowers at the tombs of soldiers, or at the graves of soldiers, I should say,

tombs for some, graves for others.

And so as they were laying these flowers out, it made sense that it would be, you know,

during the season that we have flowers.

Flowers spread in the graves of the Union and Confederate soldiers alike in Arlington National Cemetery, originally Decoration Day.

And so that's been going on for over 150 years.

And here we are celebrating once again.

There is always controversy, though.

It is a bizarre holiday.

By the way, the controversy is not new.

Controversy has been going on for over 100 years.

Because some are calling, in fact, in 1869, the New York Times wrote that the holiday could

become sacrilegious and no longer sacred if it focused on pump dinners and oratory.
