Detective. I'm back in the studio with a bonus episode, a very short bonus episode. I'm

helping some people promote their podcasts that I think is worthwhile. Earlier this week, you may have

heard me talk with Lydia Jean Cott, or LJ, as I called her. She was a journalist and the host of a new podcast

In the late 1980s, a group of women connected through mahjong parlors in Manhattan's Chinatown,

got caught in a massive undercover drug bus. But this bus was just the beginning of an even bigger case.

You know, after the FBI's Pizza Connection investigation took down the Italian mafia, who was

bringing heroin in from the Middle East, the Chinese stepped in.

They started a stream of China white from the Golden Triangle in Southeast Asia.

I tell you what, these guys, it's like whack a mole in this

narcotics business. You whack one down and another one pops up. Now the Colombians start bringing

in cocaine and now the Mexicans are bringing in cocaine and the Ecuadorians and the Bolivians

and everybody else in Venezuela's, everybody else in South America. We have this huge drug market,

man, you can bring it in we'll

buy it now lydia jean and her co-reporter shu wang interviewed sources who'd never spoken on record before

including witnesses defendants and federal prosecutors they reconstructed a case that still has

repercussions today and lydia jean had a particularly close connections to the main prosecutor in this.

So she really got a lot of information that normally a reporter can't get.

Chinatown Sting is a gripping investigative show.
