Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, April 8th.

President Donald Trump threatened more tariffs for China yesterday, but Beijing isn't backing down.

They put a 34% tariff on above what their ridiculous tariffs were already.

And I said if that tariff isn't removed by tomorrow at 12 o'clock, we're putting a 50 percent

tariff on above the tariffs that we put on.

China has accused the U.S. of, quote, economic bullying.

CNN's Christie-Lou Stout has more from Hong Kong.

If Trump's latest threat goes to effect, Chinese goods in the US would be subject to

tariffs of 104%, but China is holding firm.

This morning, China's Ministry of Commerce issued a defiant statement saying this, quote,

the US threat to escalate tariffs on China is a mistake on top of a mistake, which once again exposes the blackmailing nature of the U.S. China will never accept it.

If the U.S. insists on its own way, China will fight to the end. As China pushes back, other Asian nations are pursuing trade talks with the U.S., with Japan getting priority.

That's according to the U.S. Treasury Secretary.

Trump says Japan is sending a team to negotiate on trade after he spoke with the Japanese prime

minister.

Global markets have risen today after yesterday's major drops.

The Trump administration can once again use an 18th century law to carry out

mass deportations. The Supreme Court ruled that for now, immigration officials can use the

sweeping alien enemies act to deport alleged gang members quickly. But it stressed that going forward,

people who are removed should be notified and have the

opportunity to have their case reviewed by the federal court while they're being detained.

It comes hot on the heels of another victory for Trump, as CNN's Priscilla Alvarez explains.
