The recently concluded summit in Beijing between the United States and the People's Republic of China

was the occasion of the first

visit to the PRC of a sitting US president for nearly a decade, and took place in the wake of

years of deteriorating relations across both the Trump and Biden presidencies. Although

expectations for the summit were not especially high, the outcomes were even more

insubstantial than many had predicted.

But the summit did at least reveal that for the time being, relations between the Trump

administration and Xi Jinping and the PRC are on a somewhat more friendly footing than at the height

of the tariff war. In today's interview, I spoke with China experts, Tabita Chow and Jake

Warner, about whether

or not the relative Thorin relations and the continuation of the tariff truce is durable.

We went on to talk about China's approach to Taiwan and how realistic or otherwise the idea

of a Chinese blockade or military assault on the island really are.

And Jake and Toby explained what they see as potential crises on

the horizon that might worsen relations between the two most powerful states in the global system.
