I met Hey church. Welcome to Amen podcast. My name is lookilani your host and today my husband Alex is preaching about

0:11.7

anger and what we should do with our rage. We're looking at Matthew chapter 5 verses 21 through 26. I'll go ahead and read now and then Alex will take it away.

0:22.3

Under the laws of Moses the rule was if you kill you must die, but I have added to that rule and tell you that if you are only angry, even in your own home, you are in danger of judgment.

0:35.8

If you call your friend and idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse him, you are in danger of the fires of hell.

0:45.7

So if you are standing before the altar in the temple offering a sacrifice to God and suddenly remember that a friend has something against you, leave your sacrifice there beside the altar and go and apologize and be reconciled to him.

1:00.7

And then come and offer your sacrifice to God. Come to terms quickly with your enemy before it's too late and he drags you into court and you are thrown into a dead or sell.

1:11.6

For you will stay there until you until you have paid your last penny. Amen. Hello from the beach. You can hear the waves behind us. A beautiful peaceful chill way to talk about how to be chill.

1:26.8

This week is our birthday week. So local on his birthday, my birthday, August's birthday and Lucy's birthday are all this week. Pretty crazy. And it's been very hectic. The schedule has been thrown out a couple of different times and I was getting really rageful angry with my kids.

1:45.2

Local ony told me you can't be mad at your dependence for being dependent. And I was like, that is good. So I was like, you know what? One day I'm just going to make a video going to make a video because as a Christian, I've learned that I can try to cover my rage and control my rage by working doing ministry doesn't work. But that's what I've been trying to do over the last eight or so years. Before I was a Christian, it was covering and trying to control my rage with less with pornography with drugs.

2:15.2

Nothing worked. So as I'm in the middle of this video, a kid walks in. I get even more mad than I quit the video. Then I go days later hours later, we were driving to the beach. And I was thinking about, man, I'm really struggling with this anger. What's going on? And God showed me, you can't try to cover and control your anger by working with anything. It's not going to work. You have to transfer it to release it.

2:43.3

He was telling me how to be chill. And it was perfect because the next episode was about being chill, how to deal with our rage. And he was exposing how I don't have the right to ever be rageful towards anyone.

2:59.3

Look at Matthew, chapter 5, verses 21 through 22. Localani already read them beautifully. Let's look at these first two verses. It says, under the law of Moses, the rule was, if you kill, you must die. But I have added to that rule and tell you that if you are angry, even in your own home, you are in danger of judgment. If you call your friend an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court.

3:19.3

And if you curse him, you're in danger of the fires of hell. What is Jesus saying here? He's saying that we need to chill because we don't have the right to rage.

3:29.3

He's saying that anger is bad because we don't have the right to be angry with anyone. When I get angry at my kids, they're just being kids. Have I never annoyed anyone? Have I never been inconsiderate towards anyone? So what right do I have to be angry? When I'm being angry at my kids, when I'm being angry at anyone, say someone takes my wave, cuts me off, snakes me in the water.

3:54.3

And I get angry at them. Have I never snaked someone? So the thing is, when we get rageful towards someone and we call someone an idiot as the example Jesus gave, calling someone a fool or to lash out at someone even in your own home.

4:09.3

And we're doing that. What we're doing is we're putting ourselves in the position of God. We're doing just what Cain did. Cain thought he had a right to be angry and take out his anger on his brother.

4:21.3

Anytime you turn to rage, I'm going to figure this out. I'm going to work to cover my rage. I'm going to lust to cover my rage. I'm going to get more followers. I'm going to work harder. I'm going to make more money.

4:36.3

Anytime you turn to rage, what you're doing is you're putting yourself in the position of God and he's saying what he's saying is we need to chill because that's a position that we don't belong in.

4:45.3

As long as you're trying to be God in your life, there's no room for God. As long as you're trying to be God, you're never going to have any of the things that God wants to give you. Peace, joy, love, kindness, strength, all that will never be yours.

4:59.3

As long as you're trying to deal with your situation with rage.

5:03.3

Look at Psalms 4-4. Don't you read that for us. Psalms 4-4.

5:08.3

Stand before the Lord in awe and do not sin against him. Lie quietly upon your bed in silent meditation.
