Coming to you on this Saturday afternoon here with a real quick rant just about childhood obesity

0:09.3

and youth fitness and training and kind of everything wrapped up into one.

0:13.4

Now literally I'm going to read through just a handful of statistics and numbers and kind of my take on youth fitness and sports and nutrition.

0:20.5

And I would call it,

0:22.0

you know, the childhood obesity epidemic we have going on in America. And I think it's overall.

0:27.7

I don't think it's limited to just children. We obviously have a fat facts podcast where we kind

0:33.0

of rip through adults and the numbers of the average male and the average female. But our youth fitness summer camps are starting here in about a week.

0:40.7

So I thought I'd touch on that just because the numbers are eye-opening.

0:44.2

And I've seen a shift and change since we've done youth fitness here in some capacity

0:48.4

intermittently for the past decade or so, sometimes just summer camps, sometimes throughout

0:52.9

the year, sometimes younger children,

0:55.0

you know, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, all the way up to high school age kids working with, you know,

0:59.4

high school girls basketball teams, men's basketball teams, and different athletes and just

1:03.1

general fitness for kids because now it's a lot of schools don't even have PE at all.

1:08.9

Like there's zero physical education program and a lot of schools now will do online PE,

1:14.1

which of all the things to teach online, I'm not sure what the adherence rate is to

1:19.3

online physical education to a 14-year-old kid who has no interest in sports or fitness.

1:24.7

But again, I'm not an educator in in that arena so I'm not really sure

1:29.4

but with that said I'm just going to rip through you know the facts about childhood obesity you know

1:33.9

in the what I would call an epidemic or crisis that we are you know facing with kids and

1:39.3

they're eating and the education of parents and again aside on everybody I don't kids. I'm not telling you how to parent or what to do. I would never do that. I don't speak on things that I've not done myself. In the very same sentence, I was once a kid, and I still feel like one, even though I do not look like one at this point. I still do feel like one. And I was at one time and I know how it was in my house, how I grew up and, you know, the amount of limited decisions I did have when it came down to food and choices, whether it was, you know, right or wrong or what I wanted to do, I was the kid. I had no job. I had no money. I wasn't paying the bills. And so like whatever mom and dad would say, that's how it was going to be. And that was just the end all be all. So I'll leave that alone. So numbers wise, approximately 18 to 19 percent, depending on what studies in beta. And I'll source everything at the very end of the podcast, you guys. 18 to 19% of the U.S. youth are classified as the obese category.
