lockdown chiefs podcast. Welcome back to locked on chiefs. Some news and

updates going on today. We're going to talk about how to move on from this particular loss of the

Titans and get ready for those chargers. There is some information. Top story

today is that Clark Hunt made his annual mid-season appearance and had a couple of

interesting things to say both

for this week and for the future and the top one is that Patrick Mahomes is

definitely on his mind they do have a plan and they have some discussions. He did recognize that at this point

the earliest that they can start negotiations on a long-term contract, an extension

that we've all heard the rumors to be just astronomical kind of cash is going to be

following the season and he's well aware of that and to quote him he was very specific

in how they feel they might go about that and the timing of

it is what stood out to me. To quote Clark-Con here, quote, it's probably a little bit

premature to be talking about a new contract.

Everyone knows the first opportunity we'll have to resign him will come at the end of this season.

That's a decision that we'll have to make with his representatives

whether this is the right time or perhaps a year from now."

So that definitely gives you an idea that while it is on their mind, they're not going to be in a

super long rush.

They do have the fifth year option. They have some things that can

control cost without, I think, burning a bridge of any kind. I don't think that's a situation
