Sometimes the most interesting journeys take us somewhere unexpected that's just right down the road.

This week, we head north from the test kitchen to

Manchester, New Hampshire, where we follow one man's quest to inject a bit of joy into his

beloved city. This episode first aired in August of 2023, just days after the Queen City made a decision on whether or not to heed the man's request and declare Manchester, New Hampshire, the chicken tender capital of the world.

So not too long ago, I was driving through the town of Beulton, California, not too far from Santa Barbara,

and something I saw on a billboard made me nearly slam on my brakes.

Bielton calls itself home of the Split P soup, the pea soup capital of the free world.

Now, if that doesn't grab the attention of a food podcast host, nothing will.

And it's all because of this beloved restaurant called P-Soup Anderson's, which has been around since 1924. The food is roadside diner food,

hearty breakfast, chicken fried steaks, but it's their split pea soup that's really their

brilliant marketing hook. And for the record, the soup is really tasty. If you're a small town

looking for folks to stop through and spend a few bucks,

attaching your town to a food item isn't the worst idea.
