Summary

The final episode of HBO's Chernobyl, "Vichnaya Pamyat" derives it's title from the traditional prayer said at the end of an Eastern Orthadox funeral; "memory eternal". Our hope is that everyone who has watched this and will watch this in the years to come takes to heart this encomium, that we need to remember the cost of lies, the cost of taking our eye off our institutions and systems we setup to keep us safe and prosperous, because if you fail to do so the cost only becomes more dear. Thanks for watching along with us, we've loved having you all along for the experience. Final recommendations for more reading and watching from our fellow fans; this site has more information about the fate of dogs left in the Exclusion Zone, and it's not all bad news! Apparently some dogs have recovered and are healthy enough to be adopted! There are also two YouTube videos by Veritasium, "The Most Radioactive Place on Earth", and "A Walk Around Chernobyl". singular episode of television.

The final episode in the Chernobyl saga that we've been watching these last few weeks.

I have so enthralled and so many others has been enthralled by on HBO.

Jim, last week I was afraid that with all of the heroics, the nuclear-powered heroics over with that this kind of trial and finger-pointing

0:37.2

and the political process would be kind of a dull affair and maybe turn people off. I was really impressed by how riveting this

0:47.1

episode of television was and how crazy informative it was. What did you think?

0:54.0

Yeah, I think it certainly was. The trial as portrayed in this episode was exciting. Is that a weird thing to say about a trial? I don't know. Apparently the real one extremely

1:07.3

boring. So they decided to go a little bit off script here, but I think it paid off I think like showing Legosov's

1:16.8

heroism here after his implied or you know kind of skipped over failure in Vienna we get to understand that he is

1:25.8

sort of regretting the decision he made there he's having another opportunity

1:31.6

here to say his peace one that he takes and I I thought it was exciting

1:38.0

It was delivering on the really enjoyed it. Yeah I thought that it would be hard to like I man this is

1:57.7

just this this 10 minute thing where they do where they were Jared Harris

2:01.4

explains why the reactor blew up and why you could

2:06.3

reasonably believe that this reactor couldn't blow up. It took literally

2:12.1

everything going wrong.

2:14.7

But also they point out that like, you know,

2:17.0

Diatlov might have been a man waving a gun around
