Alabama just passed an interesting law.

Governor Kaye.

Has signed a law and that would require certain sex offenders to be chemically castrated before their parole.

And there are a couple states that do this already.

And it's very tricky, constitutionally speaking, because the entire series of cases

dealing with reproduction and right to privacy, you have to really, really toe the line on this one.

And this measure applies to sex offenders convicted of crimes involving children younger

than 13 sex crimes.

Now, obviously, castration that is permanent, someone being gelded, for example, that doesn't fly.

But chemical castration involves injection of medicine that blocks testosterone production

and therefore the libido, the sex drive, disappears.

A judge would decide when the medication could be stopped.

And under the measure, certain offenders receive this medication before their parole from prison

to make sure that they're out there and not, they're not predators and they're not attacking

little children.

And I assume under the measure, the man who's involved has to go back to court and have the judge

order that the medicine stop.

Interesting.
