In this episode of POV You’re My therapist, Divine sits down with fitness creator Chayse Byrd for an open and heartfelt conversation about breaking free from hyper-independence and the struggles that come with it. Chayse opens up about her journey to stop self-isolating and her shift toward building a supportive community and seeking meaningful connections. She reflects on how isolation has affected her mental and physical health, and the complexities of balancing independence and connection, emphasizing the importance of community for emotional well-being.

We also explore how growing up in a large family influenced her craving for solitude and the ongoing struggle to balance alone time with nurturing relationships. Chayse also candidly shares her experience with body dysmorphia and how toxic gym culture shape her early relationship with her body and sense of control.

Hi, guys. Welcome to POV. You're my therapist, the podcast where I vent you listen and you do not get paid ever at all and will never get paid. But today I am so excited because we are in NYC and I am joined with a very, very special guest. Today I have with me Chase Bird, who, first of all, is not spelled a regular way. It's spelled C-H-Y. So close. C-Y. C-H-A-Y-S-E. Shocking. You got the Y, though. People just forget it. That's how I know like you're a Southern girl. Thank you. Chis. Chis. I'm going to spell it how you say it chis. I appreciate it. But if you don't know Chase, she's an amazing fitness person. She is, I didn't want to say influencer because I don't know if you like that word. I just go social media advertiser. If anyone ever asks, is that it makes me nervous saying influencer.

0:56.1

Content creator, I feel like, is too mainstream.

0:58.6

Oh, yeah.

0:59.4

So social media advertiser, if we will, in the fitness space.

1:03.9

In the fitness space.

1:05.2

And she does it so freaking well.

1:08.3

I, you know, I be in the gym, not regularly, but I feel like I go through you.

1:14.1

You know what I'm saying? Like, I'll log in to TikTok and there's Chase. She just ran half a marathon.

1:19.1

And it wasn't an actual marathon. She just did it for funsies. You know, that's an average Tuesday over here.

1:24.7

An average, your unemployed friend on a Tuesday. Yes.

1:27.6

This is what she does. But also, Chase likes to get deep on her TikTok, which is something I really appreciate, and which is why I have her here. And I think that's why I relate to your content so much, because even though it's, you know, I'm not a fitness girlie, like, that's not my sterk, but you

1:45.3

have such an openness with your audience about like where you are, your mental health,

1:50.0

your healing journey, and all of that. And that's so exciting to see. So how do you feel like

1:56.1

you, like, show up in social media? Honestly, I don't know. I just try to present myself as who I genuinely am because people know,

2:03.7

they know whenever you're trying to BS something. So it's like there's no point me trying to

2:08.0

filter who I am or what I'm doing because again, the truth is always going to come out.

2:12.7

So there's no point in trying to hide or not deflect, but deflect what makes you, you and like me with my fitness

2:22.1

journey, it started so rough and I don't want people to go through that. So I want to come off as

2:26.6

genuine as possible and as real as possible so people know that they're not alone in

2:31.2

whatever they're doing, whether it's fitness or just life, because I wouldn't say

2:35.4

that I specialize in fitness because I definitely don't. Like you said, I go out into the mental

2:40.7

health realm because that is something that I genuinely struggle with. And again, I want people
