On Sunday, before Pete Buttiget announced his decision to end his presidential campaign,

he was introduced by his husband Chastin.

And just the day before his cheerful words about the impact of his husband's campaign,

Chastin sat with me in Columbia, South Carolina.

As his parents looked on, the school teacher who left the classroom to campaign for his husband

talked about the historic nature of the if they'd been lucky enough to live in the White House.

Reminder, this conversation took place 24 hours before Buda Judge ended his campaign.

But this conversation was too special not to share.

Thank you for having me.

You and Pete, Buda Judge, a candidate for President of the United States,

you got married in June of 2018.

Correct.

And then in less than a year he comes to you and says, honey I'm home I'm thinking of running for president?

Almost just like that. Yeah, he set his bags down and proclaimed it from the foyer.

Yeah, no joke.

He literally came home from, you know, meeting with political advisors and a team and trusted friends and said you know this is what we're thinking about and I told him to go for it.

But that wasn't the first time you had heard this

that he was thinking of running.

It was, yeah.
