Chasing Chi, Part 2. One Man's Trash We're not going to be able to bring charges yet, and we were getting a lot of pressure from headcourse, most of Los Angeles,

because all the resources we were using, we didn't have a case yet to go to trial.

It's February 2005.

Jim Gaylord, FBI special agent and case lead on the Chi Mack counter-espionage case,

is running out of road.

For the last year, his team have been gathering intelligence on Chi and his co-conspirators.

Chi, his brother Tai, his sister-in-law, Fook, and his wife Rebecca,

have all been surveilled, tapped, and monitored within an inch of their lives.

Jim knows that Chi-Mack is gathering restricted information from his employers,

naval defense contractors Power Paragon.

He's seen the towers of documents, coated in dust, piled up in Chimack's home in Downey, California.

But so far, he hasn't been able to provide the one thing that will nail the spiring.

Evidence that those secrets are being sent to China.

Nonetheless, in an abandoned lot, somewhere in Southern California,

FBI and NCIS agents are diligently rifling through the Mac Rings trash, hoping against hope for some sliver of a lead.
