Today we are on a journey through Scripture.

We hope you'll join us as we make 66 stops through each book of the Word of God.

The most important journeys should always be planned. Before you set out on some long

adventure, it's a good idea to chart your course. And that's exactly what we're going to do today

as we begin our journey through the scriptures. And we want to begin where God begins. Genesis

1, verse 1, says, in the beginning, God.

And so we believe that the Bible is a progressive revelation. As such, we study it that way. We begin

with the book of Genesis and then we walk our way through the Old Testament and then right

into the New Testament. But in order to do that, I think we need a good overview of what we're

approaching when we come to the Old Testament scriptures. You see, everywhere I go, there are people

that give much attention to the New Testament and think very little now of the Old Testament.

I remember years ago walking across a university campus and saying to a young man that I was

trying to witness to, I was trying

to talk to him about the Lord and find a good starting place. I said, do you believe the word of God?

His response to me was, well, I believe the Old Testament. I soon found out he was a Jew. He didn't

accept the New Testament. The sad reality is there are a lot of New Testament believers today who have in many ways, at least practically, rejected the Old Testament. But the sad reality is there are a lot of New Testament believers today who

have in many ways, at least practically, rejected the Old Testament. That should never be. You see,

the Old Testament and the New Testament are not competitors, they're completers. They work together.

If you can imagine the Old Testament as a broad base upon which the New Testament builds.

And as you journey through the Old Testament, we're going somewhere. We're leading to something.

It's bringing us nearer to Christ. When the farmer looks at the Word of God, the Old Testament is the seed form.
