His parents were descended from French Huguenots, who fled to England 150 years earlier

when Louis the 14th removed all protections to the Protestants in the country.

In 1841, the family changed their name from Boy Cat to Boycott.

It's a fact that would probably otherwise be ignored,

except in this story, the family's name is kind of the whole point of the story.
