This is CBSI and the world. I'm John Betts with my good colleagues, Gordon Chang, at Gordon

G. Chang, my co-host and friend, and we're pleased to be speaking to the author, Charles

Burton of Synopsis Institute. The new book is The Beaver and the Dragon,

how China outmaneuvered Canada's diplomacy, security, and sovereignty. But now we go to China.

The People's Republic of China is a troubled land. They stopped some time ago publishing

unemployment statistics for young people. As far as I can tell, their unemployment statistics are untrustworthy

for years. We're looking at an economy and collapse with, one, the inflation story is reversed.

It's called deflation, and it kills sovereignty. Two, the crater of the residential market will last for years.

Routinely now, in the big investment houses, they use the term Japanification,

Japanification.

That is a polite way of cursing an economy for up to decades.

In addition to that, China is led by a group of men who seem to ignore the stranglehold

that they have on the municipal banking and governments that have lent far beyond their

means to recoup for years and continue, always chasing some big story.
