Remember group dinners? Sloppy, loud and expensive things used to go to every Friday and Saturday night

weekend after weekend after weekend. The most responsible person in the group made a big

reservation early in the week and everyone RSVP'd yes without hesitation.

We all took them for granted, myself included, and I now look back on them with a fondness I

can't shake. But in doing so, I began to remember the nightmare scenario of being seated next to

the one person you don't want to spend a Friday night with. These are the worst people to talk to

at group dinners. The first is the person who just went on vacation. This is usually me.

They're tan which makes you look a little worse. They're still in vacation mode which means that

they just have an absolute wild card mentality. But worst of all, they just won't shut up about

their vacation. Yes, we all saw your stories from Chinkwitare already and we know that you had

such a great time in Italy. But unfortunately, because we were all stuck at home, no one actually

cares. If you're this person, you get a clearance for about a one minute recap unless someone is

super interested in what you did and they keep asking you questions. How to handle them? Just not

along, change the subject and pray they realize that no one actually cares. Next, we have the friend

of a friend. You always get a text in the big group text before group dinners that says,

hey, do you mind if I bring my friend blank and then just insert any name there? There's no

choice at that point. They're coming even if it means you have to move the reservation or change

how many people are going. You're siloed at the end of the table with this person and then the small

talk ensues. So, what do you do for work? Are you seeing anybody? What brought you to the city?
